Cannes 2012

This time of year, as for the last 25+ I am looking forward to seeing friends, customers and meeting new customers in Cannes.

This year Horizon will be working out of the Canada Pavilion and with corporate headquarters at Les Mimosas, 4 rue LeCerf, Cannes.

WHAT'S UP WITH HORIZON THIS CANNES?

-  Sales of new films nearing completion:

These include UNDER THE APPLE BOX, THE EXHIBITION and DEADSVILLE

-  Acquisition of titles for Canada and North America

Distribution in these two markets has been the largest part of Horizon's business since last Cannes and I am well positioned to help you exploit your films in this market, either as a distributor or co-producer.  Over the last year I have sold over 25 films to Canadian television and I am looking for more.

-  Expansion of Theatrical offerings in foreign - new brand RHS Pictures Inc. working in collaboration with Solvej Malis of Colibri Media.  stay tuned for more news!

This year I have the following films in post production:

UNDER THE APPLE BOX

My friend, Michael Grudman introduced me to film maker Ellie Khabbaz late last year.  Her film is based on a personal experience of persecution in Iran and a true and brutal story of another Iranian woman.

Under the Apple Box will be a strong festival film this year and next as it indicates the important issue of the rights of woman worldwide.

This is a powerful drama told across the life of a woman as a child, teen and adult and her struggle to deal with events of her past.

I will have a trailer and press kit available.

THE EXHIBITION

Director/Writer/Producer, Damon Vignale has been making this film for 5 years.

It is the story of painter Pamela Masik, who has painted huge canvases of all of the victims of serial killer, Robert Pickton.

The brutal torture and murder of mostly native, and all sex trade workers, took place on his pig farm where the most gruesome of evidence came to trial. Pickton has been convicted of second degree murder and is serving a life sentence for these horrific crimes.

The film explores this event and the resolve of Pamela to complete her project despite the heavy criticism of authorities and some of the victims families.

Press kit available.

Here we go with another round of Thomas Newmans wild and crazy film making.  After the pregnant zombies, the lesbian zombies and the "bong" madness of "Bong of the Dead" we have - DEADSVILLE.

This film has a $2.5m budget (Bong was 5k) and will star Michael Ironside and hopefully Naya Rivara of GLEE.

Danny Virtue is Exec Producer and the prod. design is Steam Punk.

And if you have read this far, are going to Cannes, and can identify the picture at the top of the blog, you are invited to a Coupe de Champagne at the Carlton Terrace on me any afternoon during the Festival. (or very late)

See you there.
